CFD

cfd01_Fedem Technology is using CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) analysis in many cases to determine the loads on structures exposed to hydrodynamic forces.

CFD is a very useful tool for simulating slamming loads on offshore lifeboats. Movement and stresses on both free-fall lifeboats and davit lifeboats are calculated based on modeled sea conditions, including irregular waves.

CFD analysis shows very good agreement with model tests, so that the hydrodynamic loads transferred to the structure analysis correspond well with those that occur in reality. The analysis is also an important tool for understanding the basic behavior of a free-fall lifeboat in different situations.

CFD can also be used to estimate forces on offshore wind turbines and other structures at the sea surface. In addition, CFD is used to analyze the forces on structures that are lifted through the splash zone in order to establish weather criteria and procedures for marine operations.

Fedem Technology uses the software Star-CCM+ for their CFD analysis.
